How the Navy method works

The U.S. Navy formula estimates body fat from the circumference of your neck and waist (and hips for women) relative to your height. It only needs a tape measure and is accurate to within a few percent for most people.

What's a healthy body fat range?

For men, about 14–17% is fitness level and 18–24% is average; for women, 21–24% is fitness and 25–31% is average. To change your body composition, pair training with the right calorie target — start with the calorie calculator.
